In a recent study, the International Labour Organization, also abbreviated as ILO, has revealed that in spite of an extraordinary development performance in Africa, the great continent is continuously faced with many socio-economic challenges. These challenges include high rates of joblessness, susceptible employment, and effective poverty that has little or no sign of possible recovery in this year, and subsequent years to come if nothing is done. Consequently, many private corporations and governments are waking up to the need for massive creation of employment, qualities of the jobs created, and also, the need to make the process of job recruitment very simple. One of the corporations creating a way to improve the process of job recruitment within Africa is Platformjob.
Platformjob is a distinctive online-based platform designed to help in curtailing the difficulties faced by job seekers and recruiters. It’s more like a centre for services, projects, and job opportunities for job seekers across the African region. For employers and job seekers, the platform stands as a gateway for them; connecting employers with qualified and certified white-collar and blue-collar professionals.
According to one of Platformjob’s ambassadors, Mr James Balogun, the platform was designed to serve as a means of tackling joblessness in Africa. He further told Ventures Africa that, “Non-African countries have been able to manage their unemployment issues, but that is not the case in Africa where the private sector and entrepreneurs are doing more in terms of job creation than the government. We wanted to create opportunities for Nigerians and Africans, and Platform is our way of doing that”.
Platformjob is a different solution to the processes of job recruitment across the continent. Trying to apply to job recruitment establishments, together with a very lengthy screening procedure can be so strenuous to job seekers and recruiters. On the other hand, these issues are not in existence with Platformjob because employers directly connect with those seeking for employment. In a simple term, the platform can be called a ‘job match-making’ platform. According to Mr James Balogun, “we don’t get involved in the screening processes; neither do we get in-between potential employees and employers. Our strategy and objectives are very simple; we position ourselves as a gateway platform. Applicants are able to engage directly with job advertisers/employers”.
How it works
To start with, the Platform was created in a manner where registration will be hassle-free. When a firm or organisation registers and posts a job advert with their contact details, applicants with resumes that fit the job being advertised will get email notifications. Each applicant will contact the firm or organisation, and a conversation between the potential employer and employee will commence.
During registration, firms and organisations are requested to provide some documents that will aid in proving their legitimacy. Platformjob also uses this process to prevent the issue of firms posting false job advertisements. Before approving a firm’s account, the platform carries a proper scrutiny, and the account is approved upon a successful verification of its legitimacy. Applicants also undergo the verification process before getting their approved.
There are no hidden charges; both employers and employees only pay registration fees that are not way out of their pockets. Also, each job seeker will have only five people to compete with, unlike traditional recruitment organisations where there are over a hundred competitors.
